Förlagets beskrivning
Every year, Sweden is high on the rankings as one of the most innovative countries, looking at the number of historically epoch-making innovations, patents in relation to population or newly established innovation enterprises. The general explanation has been the strong tradition of engineering in Sweden. But there are other explanations for Sweden having so many successful engineers and innovators. In this book, science journalist Eva Krutmeijer and historian Henrik Berggren delve into the structures that created a favourable innovation climate. They approach this matter by highlighting fifty important Swedish innovations - and through this diversity they interpret deeper-lying patterns. The innovations presented in the book span over three hundred years and many of them are well-known all over the world. The concept of innovation is broadly defined by the authors and include political and social creations that have arisen in Sweden and later been adopted by other countries. The common nominator for all the innovations presented is that they have come to use. The preface is written by H. M. King Carl XVI Gustaf, Sweden's Head of State and Protector of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, who has a special interest in innovation. The book is produced in cooperation with the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences
