Förlagets beskrivning
Sexually violent predators (SVP) create fear in the general public because little is known about them except what the media and politicians have generated. Seventeen U.S. states have enacted civil commitment laws for these offenders. Much of that commitment is based on the assessment by the forensic psychologist or psychiatrist that the individual suffers from a mental abnormality or personality disorder which makes the person likely to engage in predatory acts of sexual violence. Research supporting any diagnosis that would identify the SVP does not exist. Few research studies have looked at any theory that may address this lethal offender from the mental health perspective. Current sex offender treatment research and practice is based on level one to level three offenders who are community based. Little is known about the predator. Using embedded case study analysis, this research attempts to provide a baseline for further research by identifying high levels of psychopathy and sexual sadism in the predatory sexual offender
